Help Promote Peace ~ Memorial Mile ~ Memorial Day Observance

Opportunity to volunteer in Madison, Sat. May 28th, starting at 9 am for a couple hours: You can help Veterans for Peace Chapter #25 set up the “Memorial Mile” along Atwood Avenue in Olbrich Park.

Because of COVID, for the past two years, we were unable to install the long stretch of tombstones, which we have created as a remembrance of one of the worst costs of war. We find the world today in a hazardous state and believe it is important to again install the Memorial Mile as a reminder of the costs of war, particularly when use of nuclear weapons is now “on the table”.

Do you think you might be able to assist with the Memorial Mile this year? Let us know as soon as you can.  Let us know if you can bring friends.

CODEPINK, Veterans for Peace, Four Lakes Greens, and our anti-war allies will rally on February 5, 2022 at noon on the Capital Square near State Street to demand an end to the drumbeat of war with Russia over Ukraine. We protest and resist the normalization of war and demand that not a single bullet or gun be sent to Ukraine. No New Troops or Arms to Eastern Europe! Diplomacy not war.

After gathering at the Capitol, participants will cross the street for a picket outside Senator Tammy Baldwin’s office at 30 W Mifflin to demand she and other WI representatives oppose the bill to send $500M in weapons to Ukraine, and to protest her support for basing F-35 fighter jets in Madison.

[Veterans for Peace dos not support any party.]

No War Rally – Milwaukee – Sat at Noon

“More than 100 national and regional U.S. organizations released a joint statement Tuesday urging President Biden “to end the U.S. role in escalating the extremely dangerous tensions with Russia over Ukraine.” The groups said “it is gravely irresponsible for the president to participate in brinkmanship between two nations that possess 90 percent of the world’s nuclear weapons.”

The statement warned that the current crisis “could easily spiral out of control to the point of pushing the world to the precipice of nuclear war.”
