Elizabeth Sandoval from James Madison Memorial HS is the winner of the 2017 James Allen Memorial Scholarship awarded within the Madison Metropolitan School District.  She received a $1,000 scholarship to Madison College.  She addressed the theme: “Why I Believe Violence is not the Solution”.  Elizabeth plans to pursue a career in nursing.  Read her essay here.

Ten Dodgeville High School seniors wrote excellent essays on the subject “Why I Believe War Is Not the Answer” for the 2017 Chapter 25 Veterans for Peace scholarship contest. They are, from left to right: Hannah Baldus, Maggie Godfrey, Jenna Haack, Hunter Blalock, Jacqueline Frank, Alyssa Sullivan, Marissa Parkin, McKenzie Burkhalter, Connor Trocke, and Thomas Steil, recipient of the $500 scholarship. Connor Trocke was awarded a $100 VFP scholarship, and the other writers were awarded certificates of appreciation and a high quality chocolate bar from Veterans for Peace.  Read Thomas’ essay here.
